Delivery action words

Alternatives to “initiated” on your resume

Name what you started and the steps you took to get it underway.

Words to consider

A proposal is not the same as an adopted or completed initiative.

Vague wording

Initiated improvements.

More specific wording

Proposed a shared handover checklist and prepared a draft for the operations team to review.

Illustrative example. Replace the details with your own work and verified outcomes.

Choose the meaning that fits

Started is clear for the beginning of an activity. Introduced suggests bringing it to others, while established implies a more settled practice. Choose the stage you actually reached. If you spotted a need and wrote a proposal, that is a specific contribution even when a manager decided whether to proceed.

Team operations example

Started a weekly review of unanswered customer questions and collected examples for the first discussion.

The example describes the launch of a practice without claiming that it continued indefinitely. This is an illustration, not a claim to copy into your own work history.

Use it in your own sentence

Start with the action you performed, add the project or process, then explain the purpose or result. Include a number only when you can verify it. Read the sentence aloud: a precise, ordinary word is usually stronger than inflated language.

Check three things before keeping the rewrite: could you explain the work in an interview, does the verb match your authority, and does the result belong to you or the wider team? Keep technical terms that accurately describe your experience. Changing a verb should make the sentence easier to understand without changing what happened. Use past tense for completed work and consistent tense for ongoing duties.
