Impact action words
Alternatives to “secured” on your resume
Specify the agreement, resource or approval that was obtained.
Words to consider
- Obtained
- Gained
- Confirmed
- Arranged
Secured can also mean protected; make the intended meaning clear.
Vague wording
Secured resources.
More specific wording
Obtained approval for the workshop space and confirmed equipment availability with facilities.
Illustrative example. Replace the details with your own work and verified outcomes.
Choose the meaning that fits
Obtained is direct for an approval or resource. Confirmed fits verifying an arrangement, while gained may describe access or support. Avoid implying that you won funding or negotiated terms if you only processed the request. When describing security work, use a concrete action such as configured access controls instead of this broad acquisition wording.
Community work example
Arranged donated meeting space for volunteer orientation and confirmed the booking with the venue.
This identifies the resource and arrangement without assigning an unsupported financial value. This is an illustration, not a claim to copy into your own work history.
Use it in your own sentence
Start with the action you performed, add the project or process, then explain the purpose or result. Include a number only when you can verify it. Read the sentence aloud: a precise, ordinary word is usually stronger than inflated language.
Check three things before keeping the rewrite: could you explain the work in an interview, does the verb match your authority, and does the result belong to you or the wider team? Keep technical terms that accurately describe your experience. Changing a verb should make the sentence easier to understand without changing what happened. Use past tense for completed work and consistent tense for ongoing duties.
