Impact action words
Alternatives to “improved” on your resume
Describe what changed and how you know it improved. A verified result is stronger than an exaggerated adjective.
Words to consider
- Streamlined
- Refined
- Strengthened
- Simplified
If you have no measured time saving, describe the process change without adding a number.
Vague wording
Improved the weekly reporting process.
More specific wording
Streamlined weekly reporting by replacing duplicate spreadsheet updates with a shared data source.
Illustrative example. Replace the details with your own work and verified outcomes.
Choose the meaning that fits
Simplified fits removing unnecessary complexity. Refined describes adjustments to an existing approach, while streamlined usually points to a clearer or less repetitive process. Strengthened needs an explanation of what became more reliable or effective. Instead of adding an adjective such as significantly, describe the before-and-after change. If you cannot establish that an outcome improved, describe your action without that claim.
Operations example
Simplified the request form by removing duplicate fields and grouping related questions.
The change is specific enough to discuss in an interview. A claim about faster completion would need separate evidence from users or a measured comparison. This is an illustration, not a claim to copy into your own work history.
Use it in your own sentence
Start with the action you performed, add the project or process, then explain the purpose or result. Include a number only when you can verify it. Read the sentence aloud: a precise, ordinary word is usually stronger than inflated language.
Check three things before keeping the rewrite: could you explain the work in an interview, does the verb match your authority, and does the result belong to you or the wider team? Keep technical terms that accurately describe your experience. Changing a verb should make the sentence easier to understand without changing what happened. Use past tense for completed work and consistent tense for ongoing duties.
