Impact action words

Alternatives to “expanded” on your resume

Identify what grew in range, scope or availability.

Words to consider

More activity is not automatically better performance; separate scope from impact.

Vague wording

Expanded training.

More specific wording

Added an evening workshop session and extended the practice materials to cover common setup questions.

Illustrative example. Replace the details with your own work and verified outcomes.

Choose the meaning that fits

Extended fits greater reach or duration, broadened a wider range, and added is precise for a new item or option. Describe the starting scope and the addition. If you claim growth in attendance, revenue or usage, keep the period and evidence available; a larger offering alone does not prove those outcomes.

Education support example

Broadened the tutorial examples to include both spreadsheet and database approaches to the assignment.

The increased range is clear without assuming that it improved student results. This is an illustration, not a claim to copy into your own work history.

Use it in your own sentence

Start with the action you performed, add the project or process, then explain the purpose or result. Include a number only when you can verify it. Read the sentence aloud: a precise, ordinary word is usually stronger than inflated language.

Check three things before keeping the rewrite: could you explain the work in an interview, does the verb match your authority, and does the result belong to you or the wider team? Keep technical terms that accurately describe your experience. Changing a verb should make the sentence easier to understand without changing what happened. Use past tense for completed work and consistent tense for ongoing duties.
