Communication action words
Alternatives to “documented” on your resume
Name the information you captured and who used it.
Words to consider
- Recorded
- Authored
- Compiled
- Summarized
Compiled can mean collecting existing material rather than writing original guidance.
Vague wording
Documented processes.
More specific wording
Authored setup instructions with screenshots and troubleshooting notes for new service desk colleagues.
Illustrative example. Replace the details with your own work and verified outcomes.
Choose the meaning that fits
Recorded fits preserving facts or decisions. Summarized describes reducing detail to the main points, while authored signals writing responsibility. Choose based on the output, then state its audience and purpose. Do not describe collecting meeting notes as designing the underlying process unless you also performed that work.
Operations example
Recorded handover decisions and maintained a shared list of follow-up responsibilities.
The contribution is a usable record, without assuming that every action was completed. This is an illustration, not a claim to copy into your own work history.
Use it in your own sentence
Start with the action you performed, add the project or process, then explain the purpose or result. Include a number only when you can verify it. Read the sentence aloud: a precise, ordinary word is usually stronger than inflated language.
Check three things before keeping the rewrite: could you explain the work in an interview, does the verb match your authority, and does the result belong to you or the wider team? Keep technical terms that accurately describe your experience. Changing a verb should make the sentence easier to understand without changing what happened. Use past tense for completed work and consistent tense for ongoing duties.
