Communication action words
Alternatives to “authored” on your resume
Identify the written output and the work you did to prepare it.
Words to consider
- Wrote
- Drafted
- Prepared
- Composed
Drafted is appropriate when your document was not the final approved version.
Vague wording
Authored documentation.
More specific wording
Wrote a troubleshooting guide from recurring customer questions and reviewed it with support specialists.
Illustrative example. Replace the details with your own work and verified outcomes.
Choose the meaning that fits
Wrote is a clear alternative and does not weaken the contribution. Drafted describes an initial version, prepared can include research and assembly, and composed suits original written material. Explain whether you researched, edited or owned the final text. Keep approval and publication separate when someone else handled those stages.
Policy administration example
Drafted an internal travel FAQ using approved policy guidance and submitted it for review.
The example shows writing work without claiming authority to set the policy. This is an illustration, not a claim to copy into your own work history.
Use it in your own sentence
Start with the action you performed, add the project or process, then explain the purpose or result. Include a number only when you can verify it. Read the sentence aloud: a precise, ordinary word is usually stronger than inflated language.
Check three things before keeping the rewrite: could you explain the work in an interview, does the verb match your authority, and does the result belong to you or the wider team? Keep technical terms that accurately describe your experience. Changing a verb should make the sentence easier to understand without changing what happened. Use past tense for completed work and consistent tense for ongoing duties.
