High School Resume Example for a First Job
A first-job resume can use school projects, activities and volunteering to show how you work. You do not need a made-up job history. Present your current education and choose examples that connect to the work you want to do.
Choose evidence for the application
For a weekend customer service role, useful evidence may include answering event questions, organizing materials or following a team schedule. For a technical placement, a relevant school project may deserve more space. Choose examples you can discuss clearly in an interview.
This fictional sample targets a first customer-facing job. Its expected graduation date, activities and tasks are placeholders to replace. Do not copy an activity you did not take part in or a result you cannot verify.
Complete high school sample
Use an email address you check and contact details appropriate for the application. A resume normally does not need your full street address, date of birth, school timetable or another person’s private contact information.

Add real work when you have it
A genuine part-time job, paid tutoring or another responsibility can be relevant. State what the arrangement was and the work you did without turning occasional work into continuous employment. For a family business, use the actual role and dates rather than giving yourself a senior title.
If your strongest example is volunteering, label it Volunteer Experience. If you have no activity matching the sample, use a real class assignment or responsibility you can explain. Leaving out a section is better than inventing it.
Keep the objective optional and specific
The sample objective connects the student’s background to a particular role. “Hard-working person looking for an opportunity” adds less information. If your education and experience already make the connection clear, you can omit the objective and give that space to a stronger example.
List availability only when useful for this application and accurate. Follow the employer’s application process for eligibility or age-related requirements; the resume is not the place to publish identity documents.
Check the final version
Keep the layout simple and use consistent dates. Select a few relevant examples instead of listing every club or class. Ask a trusted person to check spelling and clarity, while keeping your own voice and facts.
Before sending, confirm the employer name, contact details and expected graduation date. Open the exported file and check for clipped text or an unnecessary blank page. Ask permission before providing a teacher or supervisor as a reference.
Questions, answered
Can I write a resume without paid work?
Yes. Use relevant projects, activities and volunteering, clearly labelled. Describe real responsibilities rather than inventing employment.
Should I include all my school subjects?
Select subjects or projects that help explain your fit. A long list is rarely as useful as a short example of work you completed.
