Make this layout work for you

Introduce the connection between your earlier work and your next role in the summary. Select transferable skills that your experience can support, such as coordinating deadlines, explaining complex information or improving a repeatable process. Keep your actual job titles and dates visible. Use projects or recent learning to show progress toward the new field, while distinguishing that learning from experience you have already gained.

Career-change example

A finance professional moving toward project coordination might write: “Coordinated reporting deadlines across regional teams and maintained a shared list of open decisions.” The wording highlights transferable work without changing the original role into a project manager position. Mention a new qualification or project only when you have completed or genuinely started it.

Before you send your resume

  1. Check the content. Remove every bracketed prompt and unused section. Read names, dates, contact details and job titles separately from the rest of the text; familiar information can be easy to overlook when proofreading.
  2. Check the document. Open the exported file and look for headings left at the bottom of a page, clipped lines and unexpected spacing. Test your links and confirm that the text can be selected. Keep an editable copy for your next application.
  3. Check the application instructions. Use the file type and naming convention the employer requests. Review any fields filled from your uploaded resume before submitting; a readable template does not guarantee that every application system will interpret every field correctly.
