We are recruiting two Senior Software Engineers to join a newly established Digital, Data and Technology function within a major public-sector organisation.
You will help design, develop and improve high-quality digital services, with a particular focus on Node.js applications, APIs, microservices and serverless technologies. This is a hands-on engineering position offering the opportunity to influence technical decisions, promote engineering best practice and contribute to user-centred services.
Key responsibilities
Design and develop scalable, maintainable Node.js applications using Express.js or NestJSBuild RESTful and GraphQL APIsDevelop microservices and serverless applicationsIntegrate applications with internal platforms and third-party systemsBuild and maintain CI/CD pipelinesWrite unit and integration testsEnsure security and data-protection controls are embedded within applicationsContribute to system design and review the technical designs of othersBalance short-term delivery requirements with long-term engineering sustainabilityCreate and maintain clear technical documentationCollaborate with product managers, customers, engineers and senior stakeholdersPromote agile, user-centred approaches and modern engineering standards
Essential experience
Strong commercial JavaScript and Node.js development experienceExpress.js experienceMicrosoft AzureSQL and NoSQL databases, ideally MongoDB and Microsoft SQL ServerRESTful and GraphQL API developmentContainerised microservices using DockerAutomated testing and CI/CDGitHub, Azure DevOps or GitLabSoftware development lifecycle knowledgeSystems design and application integrationSecure software-development practices
Experience working with GDS or Ministry of Justice components and public-sector technology standards would be advantageous.
Security-clearance requirement
To meet the National Security Vetting requirements for this role, applicants must have resided continuously in the UK for at least the five years immediately preceding their application. Candidates who do not meet this requirement will not be eligible for SC clearance and therefore cannot be considered.
