We’re looking for a hands-on finance and accounting professional to own the books and day-to-day finance operations for Awaaz Labs Pvt. Ltd., Smallest.ai’s India entity.
You’ll be the internal owner of accounting accuracy, customer billing, collections, payables and monthly reporting. Our outsourced accounting partner handles day-to-day bookkeeping and agreed tax, payroll and compliance activities. You’ll review their work, hold them accountable for delivery and step in to resolve issues when needed.
This is an individual contributor role with meaningful ownership, close collaboration with our India and US teams, and the opportunity to build reliable finance processes as we grow.
A. Accounting and month-end close
Own the accuracy and completeness of the India entity’s books in Zoho Books.
Drive month-end close, including bank and balance-sheet reconciliations, accruals, provisions and supporting schedules.
Review the outsourced partner’s entries, resolve discrepancies and address recurring errors at the source.
Maintain intercompany reconciliations with the US parent and coordinate the resolution of differences.
Maintain revenue recognition schedules for usage-based and committed-credit contracts, including deferred and unbilled revenue where relevant, in line with agreed accounting policies.
B. Customer billing and contract setup
Translate signed customer contracts into accurate customer records, pricing, billing terms and invoice schedules.
Own the monthly invoicing cycle, ensuring invoices are accurate, complete and issued on time.
Work with Sales and Engineering to reconcile usage data, contracted rates, committed credits and billing adjustments.
Resolve billing queries and maintain supporting documentation for invoices and credit notes.
C. Collections, payables and cash visibility
Run collections follow-ups, coordinate the resolution of customer queries and ensure receipts are recorded and reconciled promptly.
Publish accounts receivable aging and collection updates twice a month, highlighting overdue balances, disputes and next actions.
Prepare weekly vendor payment proposals with validated invoices, due dates, supporting documents and required approvals.
Maintain visibility into cash balances and upcoming commitments through a weekly cash position and short-term forecast.
Follow approval controls for payments, vendor onboarding and bank-detail changes.
D. Monthly reporting
Deliver the monthly India MIS package, including the P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and AR/AP aging.
Prepare reporting schedules in the format and timeline required by the US finance team for group consolidation.
Explain material movements, unusual balances and outstanding issues clearly.
Keep reports traceable to the ledger and supported by reconciliations.
E. Partner management, compliance coordination and controls
Own the working relationship with the outsourced accounting partner, including scope, deadlines, quality and issue resolution.
Maintain the finance and compliance calendar, coordinating timely inputs and reviewing supporting workings and completion records.
Work with external advisers on GST, TDS, e-invoicing where applicable, payroll accounting and other statutory requirements.
Coordinate audit readiness, supporting schedules and responses to auditor queries.
Document recurring processes, clarify handoffs and implement practical controls.
Identify gaps, recommend improvements and follow through to resolution.
4–7 years of relevant experience in accounting and finance operations; Chartered Accountant qualification preferred.
Experience independently owning the books and month-end close of an Indian private limited company.
Hands-on experience across customer invoicing, collections, vendor payables, reconciliations and MIS.
Working knowledge of Indian accounting requirements, GST, TDS and applicable e-invoicing requirements, with the ability to review an external partner’s work and identify issues.
Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets and practical experience with Zoho Books or a comparable accounting system.
Strong attention to detail across invoices, payment proposals, reconciliations and financial reports.
The ability to work independently, prioritise deadlines and communicate clearly with internal teams and external partners.
A hands-on approach: you’re comfortable reviewing work, preparing schedules and resolving operational issues yourself.
Working in a SaaS, API, technology or usage-based revenue business.
Supporting an Indian subsidiary of a US or international company.
Managing outsourced accounting partners.
Handling intercompany accounting, foreign-currency transactions and group reporting.
Improving finance processes in a growing organisation.
First 30 days: Understand customer contracts, key vendors, the books and the finance calendar. Review the outsourced partner’s work and establish a prioritised action plan to address gaps.
By 60 days: Run billing, collections reporting and payment proposals reliably. Complete a monthly close and MIS package within agreed timelines, with supporting reconciliations.
By 90 days: Establish documented processes, reliable cash visibility and clear accountability for the outsourced partner. Demonstrate progress on priority accounting and control improvements.
At Smallest.ai, we’re building voice AI for real-world conversations. As we grow across India and the US, you’ll help build the financial discipline and processes that support that growth.
You’ll have ownership from day one, work closely with leadership and our US finance team, and see the impact of your work across the business from accurate customer billing to better cash visibility and clearer financial decisions.
If you enjoy getting into the details, solving problems and building better ways of working, this is an opportunity to shape the finance function of a growing AI company.
Start with a role or skill you want to use in your next job. Use the location and role filters to narrow the results, then open a listing to review the description. A title alone rarely explains the level of responsibility, working arrangement, or experience a team needs. Compare those details before deciding which opportunities deserve a tailored application.
Employers use different titles for similar work. If an exact phrase produces no results, try a shorter title, a core skill, or an alternative name for the role. Remove one filter at a time to understand which requirement is narrowing your search. A broader search can reveal suitable work without asking you to change your actual qualifications.
For each promising listing, read the responsibilities and separate essential requirements from preferences. Note the location, schedule, employment type, and compensation when provided. Missing details are questions to confirm with the employer. A remote opening may still require a particular country, work authorization, or time-zone overlap, so check the full posting before treating it as a location-independent opportunity.
Choose a few examples that demonstrate the skills this employer names. Explain your contribution and its outcome, using accurate numbers where available. Put the most relevant experience first and keep your resume easy to scan. Avoid adding technologies, qualifications, or achievements simply because they appear in a description. Your application should make your existing strengths easier to understand.
Follow the employer’s instructions for resumes, cover letters, work samples, and screening questions. Review the exported file before submitting it: confirm that contact details are correct, text can be selected, and links reach the intended pages. A resume check can help you spot unclear writing before you apply. Its feedback is advisory and does not predict a hiring decision.
Listings are collected from external sources and may change after they appear here. The employer or recruiting destination controls whether applications are open. If an original link is unavailable, check the company’s careers page for the title or move to another opening. An employer website link is a place to check current vacancies, rather than confirmation that a particular job is still accepting applications.
Keep a simple record of the company, role, job reference, application date, and documents you sent. Record any follow-up instructions and the next action you plan to take. This makes it easier to prepare for interviews, compare opportunities, and avoid applying repeatedly to the same opening through different boards. Review your shortlist as employers update their listings and prioritize opportunities with clear requirements that match the work you want to do.
