Berlin or nearby, hybrid. Full-time, permanent. Start: as soon as possible
Careship helps families find reliable support in everyday life: all across Germany, through self-employed caregivers and our own employed caregivers. Behind both stands a platform we built entirely ourselves, live since August 2026: a Python backend, an internal staff portal, an app for customers and an app for caregivers.
The system covers everything from the first inquiry to payroll: matching, scheduling, care budgets, billing with care insurance funds, payment processing and digital contracts, plus email, chat, WhatsApp and phone calls in one inbox. It is live, it runs the operations of two companies, and it grows every week.
This is why we are looking for the second person in our permanent engineering duo.
You work as one of two engineers on our system, with a focus on the Python backend: data model, business logic, APIs and the integrations our operations run on. If full stack is your thing, the rest is open to you: the staff portal in Next.js and our two apps in React Native. You share responsibility and cover for each other, in everyday work and during vacations.
You build features from the data model through the business logic to the finished API endpoint, and all the way to the screen if you want.
You work on core topics like the budget engine, billing, the payroll pipeline and matching. Logic where diligence really counts.
You maintain code in production that real people use every day: our operations team, caregivers, and customers with their families.
You work directly with product and the tech lead, no layers in between. Requirements arrive as fully worked-out specifications from our knowledge base, not as two-line tickets.
You get freedom and real responsibility: the system is brand new, much of it is taking shape right now, and you help decide where it goes. The roadmap includes shift planning, analytics, a marketing module and an ambassador platform.
Backend: Python 3.12, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy 2, Alembic, PostgreSQL, on Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage)
Portal: Next.js 16, React 19, TypeScript, MUI, TanStack Query, generated OpenAPI client
Apps: React Native with Expo, shipped through the app stores
Integrations: Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Meet), Auth0, Aircall, WhatsApp and DATEV, plus payment and e-signature providers
How we work: AI-assisted. Specifications, code and reviews are created with AI support, as our everyday standard, not as an experiment.
At least 3 years of experience in professional product development, more is a plus
Solid Python experience in production, ideally with FastAPI and SQLAlchemy or comparable frameworks
Confidence with relational databases and SQL, PostgreSQL in our case
You already code with AI support as a matter of course, ideally with real enthusiasm. For us this is a requirement, because it is how we work every day.
Diligence where mistakes cost money or trust: billing, payments, personal data
Fluent English. German is a plus.
Appetite for a small team with a lot of responsibility and a direct line to the people who use your software
TypeScript, React, React Native or Next.js, if you also want to work on the frontend
App store releases and Expo EAS
Google Cloud, Google Workspace APIs, or experience with payment and e-signature integrations
Experience in regulated domains such as health, care or fintech
WebSockets and real-time features
German language skills, since our domain and our specifications are in German
A brand-new system with real room to shape it: two engineers, clear specifications, no decades-old legacy, and plenty of space to keep building
Freedom and responsibility from day one, flat hierarchies, no meeting marathons
Real social impact: your work helps seniors get support and makes sure caregivers are paid fairly and on time
Home office with regular shared days at our Berlin office
Several weeks per year of fully remote work, from abroad if you like
30 days of paid vacation
A new MacBook with serious power
An annual learning budget plus two extra paid learning days
An Urban Sports membership
Deutschlandticket (Germany-wide public transport pass)
Regular team events
Our process is deliberately fast and straightforward, in three steps: a short intro call, a technical interview, and finally a small case study plus meet the team.
No need to send us a novel. Your CV, GitHub or LinkedIn profile and a few sentences on why this is exactly your thing are plenty.
The annual salary for this permanent, 40-hour-per-week role is EUR 60,000–70,000 per year.
If you match most of these requirements and want to apply your engineering skills to meaningful work, we encourage you to send us your application through the platform. We look forward to reviewing your background and discussing how you can contribute to our team in Berlin.
Start with a role or skill you want to use in your next job. Use the location and role filters to narrow the results, then open a listing to review the description. A title alone rarely explains the level of responsibility, working arrangement, or experience a team needs. Compare those details before deciding which opportunities deserve a tailored application.
Employers use different titles for similar work. If an exact phrase produces no results, try a shorter title, a core skill, or an alternative name for the role. Remove one filter at a time to understand which requirement is narrowing your search. A broader search can reveal suitable work without asking you to change your actual qualifications.
For each promising listing, read the responsibilities and separate essential requirements from preferences. Note the location, schedule, employment type, and compensation when provided. Missing details are questions to confirm with the employer. A remote opening may still require a particular country, work authorization, or time-zone overlap, so check the full posting before treating it as a location-independent opportunity.
Choose a few examples that demonstrate the skills this employer names. Explain your contribution and its outcome, using accurate numbers where available. Put the most relevant experience first and keep your resume easy to scan. Avoid adding technologies, qualifications, or achievements simply because they appear in a description. Your application should make your existing strengths easier to understand.
Follow the employer’s instructions for resumes, cover letters, work samples, and screening questions. Review the exported file before submitting it: confirm that contact details are correct, text can be selected, and links reach the intended pages. A resume check can help you spot unclear writing before you apply. Its feedback is advisory and does not predict a hiring decision.
Listings are collected from external sources and may change after they appear here. The employer or recruiting destination controls whether applications are open. If an original link is unavailable, check the company’s careers page for the title or move to another opening. An employer website link is a place to check current vacancies, rather than confirmation that a particular job is still accepting applications.
Keep a simple record of the company, role, job reference, application date, and documents you sent. Record any follow-up instructions and the next action you plan to take. This makes it easier to prepare for interviews, compare opportunities, and avoid applying repeatedly to the same opening through different boards. Review your shortlist as employers update their listings and prioritize opportunities with clear requirements that match the work you want to do.
