Software Engineer, (C/C++)

About the Role L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Specialist, Software Engineer (C/C++) to develop and support advanced sonar systems and software for mission-critical aerospace and defense applications. This onsite role in Herndon, Virginia focuses on application-level and embedded C/C++ development, Linux-based GUI and system control, software requirements, testing, verification, validation, integration, and documentation. The successful candidate will be an experienced software engineer with strong C/C++ development skills who can work across software design, embedded real-time systems, testing, integration, and configuration management. The role supports software operating in diverse environments, including factory, depot, laboratory, and shipboard settings. Key Responsibilities Design and implement software using C/C++ on Linux and embedded real-time operating systems.Execute software engineering projects and tasks involving software design, documentation, verification, and validation for sonar systems.Develop and enhance software for operational systems and test facilities.Perform independent validation and verification of software design concepts and implementation approaches.Develop, test, document, and integrate software code.Support software integration activities.Perform software configuration management to ensure code reflects the current version and revision level.Conduct review and oversight activities to evaluate designs against customer requirements, company standards, engineering best practices, and quality system procedures.Ensure assigned work meets technical, schedule, and quality requirements.Identify and report technical, cost, or schedule risks and recommend corrective actions or alternatives.Support application-level, embedded, UI, and system-control software development for advanced sonar systems. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, with a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience; orGraduate degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.4+ years of experience designing and implementing software using C/C++.Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.Ability to work onsite at the Herndon, Virginia location.
