The Opportunity
We're a product company looking for a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer to take ownership of our internal systems end-to-end — production infrastructure, internal CRM, and the automation/AI-agent tooling (MCP servers) that powers our team's workflows. This is a senior, high-autonomy role: you won't be handed tickets, you'll be trusted to identify what needs fixing, architect the right solution, and see it through while also raising the bar for how the rest of the team builds and operates.
You're the engineer other engineers escalate to when production is on fire, when a CRM data issue needs untangling, or when a manual process across the company needs to disappear into an automation.
What You'll Own
Internal CRM Ownership
Own the architecture and long-term health of our internal CRM platform (unified inbox, agent workflows, automation rules, refund/RMA flows, etc.)
Lead debugging of complex, cross-system data and logic issues across CRM backend (NestJS) and database layers (MongoDB/PostgreSQL)
Drive feature development and technical decisions for internal tooling requested by ops, support, and sales teams
Design conversation/agent assignment logic, bulk data operations, and integration sync architecture (Shopify, third-party APIs)
Server & Infrastructure Ownership
Own production infrastructure strategy on AWS (EC2, ALB, S3, Route53, IAM, VPC) and Linux environments (AlmaLinux/Ubuntu)
Architect and maintain nginx reverse proxy configs, SSL/TLS certificate management at scale across multiple subdomains, and process management (PM2/systemd)
Design networking architecture: firewalls, security groups, load balancer redirect logic, DNS strategy
Lead database administration (PostgreSQL, MongoDB) — access control architecture, indexing strategy, connection pooling, security posture
Own incident response end-to-end: lead root cause investigations, drive containment decisions, coordinate hardening and post-mortems
Make infrastructure decisions with long-term maintainability and security in mind — not just the fastest fix
Automation & MCP/Agent Tooling
Architect and build MCP servers and internal integrations enabling AI agents to securely interact with CRM, databases, and internal systems
Set direction for the company's automation strategy — identify where AI-agent-driven workflows can eliminate manual ops work
Build robust automation scripts and internal tools (Bash/Python/Node.js) and establish standards for how automation gets built and maintained
Design internal APIs/webhooks connecting CRM, WMS/ERP, and third-party platforms (Shopify, ShipHero, etc.)
Leadership & Cross-Functional Impact
Mentor junior/mid-level engineers on infrastructure, debugging methodology, and automation practices
Partner directly with product, support, ops, and leadership to translate business pain points into technical roadmap
Set documentation standards — both deep technical runbooks and plain-language guides for non-technical stakeholders
Own Git/deployment workflow strategy: branching models, PR review standards, repo migrations, CI/CD direction
Act as a technical escalation point during high-stakes incidents, including direct client/stakeholder communication when needed
Skills & Qualifications
4+ years building and maintaining backend systems (NestJS/Node.js preferred), with significant time in production SaaS environments
Deep, hands-on experience with AWS (EC2, security groups, load balancers, IAM, S3) — you've architected, not just maintained
Expert-level Linux server administration — you're the person others call when production breaks
Strong networking expertise: DNS, TLS/SSL, reverse proxies, firewalls, load balancer routing, redirect chain debugging
Deep database experience with PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB — schema design, indexing strategy, access control architecture, performance tuning
Proven track record of automation/scripting at scale (Bash, Python, or Node.js) — you build systems, not one-off scripts
Hands-on experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or building tools/integrations for AI agents — or strong, demonstrable ability to pick it up fast
Experience owning or architecting CRM systems or similarly complex internal platforms
History of leading incident response for production systems — not just participating
Experience mentoring other engineers or setting technical standards for a team
Comfortable owning problems across the full stack with zero hand-holding — you are the backend engineer, the DevOps engineer, and the automation engineer when the moment calls for it
Nice to Have
Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms (CRM, ERP, WMS)
Shopify or e-commerce platform integration experience (OAuth, webhooks, GraphQL APIs)
Experience with Redis/BullMQ for queue-based processing
Experience with Claude/Anthropic API, LLM tool-calling, or agentic workflows
Docker/Kubernetes experience, especially formalizing CI/CD for a company that hasn't had it before
Prior forward-deployed, solutions engineering, or founding/early engineer experience at a startup
