What you’ll be part of:

Circle is committed to visibility and stability in everything we do. As we grow as an organization, we're expanding into some of the world's strongest jurisdictions. Speed and efficiency are motivators for our success and our employees live by our company values: High Integrity, Future Forward, Multistakeholder, Mindful, and Driven by Excellence. We have built a flexible work environment where new ideas are encouraged and everyone is a stakeholder.

About the role

As Circle expands the customers and payment methods it serves, our fraud exposure grows and changes. We rely on conservative limits and third-party models today, and we are building our own.

As a Senior Data Scientist on Fraud Analytics, you will own the prediction side of our fraud loop. You will turn labels into features and models, measure their accuracy, and shift Circle from vendor scores to in-house models. You will work with Fraud Strategy, Fraud Operations, Risk Engineering, and Compliance.

What you’ll do

  • Build and evaluate fraud models for onboarding, login, account changes, and money movement. Target risks include account takeover, scams, money mules, and stolen and synthetic identity.
  • Evaluate third-party risk signals and design the path from vendor models to Circle models, from shadow mode to production.
  • Define the label taxonomy and data requirements with Fraud Operations and Risk Engineering, so every event, decision, and outcome becomes training data. This includes the fraud we miss.
  • Design holdout and exploration sampling to measure false negatives and the rate at which we wrongly block good customers.
  • Track fraud rate, dispute rate, fraud loss rate, and precision across customer segments. Help set thresholds against an agreed loss budget.
  • Work with Fraud Strategy to tune thresholds and rules and respond to emerging attacks.
  • Backtest, monitor drift, and retrain models on Circle’s fraud platform.
  • Help build AI agent workflows for transaction review, fraud-ring analysis, and rule drafting, and evaluate their accuracy against human labels.

Core Requirements

  • 5+ years in data science or applied ML on fraud, risk, or financial crime
  • Advanced Python and SQL, and experience with XGBoost, LightGBM, or similar
  • Experience building models with sparse, delayed, or biased labels, including cold start, reject inference, and chargeback lag
  • Strong statistics: anomaly detection, graph or network methods, experimentation, and threshold optimization
  • Experience taking models to production and monitoring them
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical partners
  • Comfort working through ambiguity and limited historical data

Preferred Requirements

  • Fintech, payments, crypto, or card fraud experience, including chargebacks and disputes
  • Experience with device intelligence, behavioral signals, or consortium data
  • Familiarity with blockchain analytics, AML, and KYC
  • Experience evaluating LLM or agent-based review workflows

Prepare your application

Use the description above to assess your fit for Circle. This checklist is guidance from Resumize, rather than additional requirements from the employer. Imported listings can be shortened or change after collection, so confirm the complete description and current availability before sending an application.

Match requirements to evidence

Identify the responsibilities and skills the employer explicitly names. For each important requirement, choose one example from your work, education, training, or projects. Explain what you did, how you did it, and what changed as a result. Include a measurable outcome when you can support it. If you lack a requirement, describe related experience accurately instead of adding an unfamiliar skill to your resume.

Put the most relevant examples near the top of your resume. Keep job titles, dates, qualifications, and contact details consistent across your application materials. Use the employer’s terminology when it describes your experience accurately; a copied list of keywords does not explain your contribution. A short, specific bullet is easier to review than a paragraph that mixes several unrelated duties.

Check the working arrangement

Confirm the location, schedule, employment type, and any eligibility requirements on the employer’s site. A remote label does not establish worldwide eligibility or flexible hours. If compensation, benefits, equipment, travel, or contract duration are missing from this listing, write down your questions for the recruiter. Do not assume details from another opening at the same company apply to this role.

Review before submitting

Follow the employer’s requested file format and application instructions. Open your exported resume and check that its text is selectable, its sections read in order, and its links work. Proofread names, dates, and contact information. Share confidential work samples only when you have permission, and use an anonymized example when necessary.

Submit through a trusted employer or recruiting destination. If the original listing has disappeared, search the employer’s careers page for the title rather than assuming the vacancy remains open. Save the application date, job reference, and the version of your resume you sent. Those details help you prepare for a later conversation and avoid submitting conflicting information through several job boards.

Review your resume for writing and readability feedback, or browse other openings if this opportunity is unavailable.
