Product Manager
Job Description
About Aplazo
Aplazo is Mexico’s leading “buy now, pay later” platform, giving consumers flexible, transparent payment solutions while helping merchants grow their sales. We’re a fast-growing Series B fintech backed by top global investors, combining technology, data, and design to redefine financial access.
Role's Mission
BNPL Online is how merchants bring Aplazo into their e-commerce checkout—through plugins, custom integrations, and the widget that shows shoppers their payment options. The Product Manager, BNPL Online owns this product end to end: what we build, in what order, and why.
This is an individual contributor role: no direct reports, full ownership of the roadmap and its outcomes. You report directly to the Head of Merchant Success and work daily with Engineering, Merchant Success, and Analytics to move merchants through the funnel that defines this product—Integration, Checkout, Widget, and Merchant Data—and to remove whatever is currently the biggest blocker in that chain.
The standard is not shipped features—it is adoption and merchant outcomes. A plugin that gets installed correctly the first time, a checkout that converts, a widget that merchants trust enough to leave untouched: that is the evidence the roadmap is right.
Key Responsibilities
PRODUCT STRATEGY & ROADMAP
At Aplazo, AI is not a nice-to-have skill—it's part of how this role operates day to day. The gap between "I have an idea" and "here is a working version" is expected to be small, and AI is how you close it.

Key Responsibilities
PRODUCT STRATEGY & ROADMAP
- Own the BNPL Online roadmap — prioritize across Integration, Checkout, Widget, and Merchant Data based on where the funnel is actually breaking, not where it's loudest.
- Translate merchant and KAM feedback into product requirements — distinguish a one-off request from a pattern worth building for.
- Make the hard prioritization calls — and be able to explain, to Engineering and to leadership, why something didn't make the roadmap.
- Write specs precise enough for engineers to build from without a meeting — and clear enough for a merchant-facing team to explain to a client.
- Run the integration and plugin experience like a product, not a project — reduce time-to-integrate and the friction merchants hit before they ever process a transaction.
- Own checkout and widget performance — conversion, drop-off, and the experience shoppers actually have at the moment of payment.
- Use data to find where the funnel leaks — query directly, don't wait for someone else's dashboard to tell you what's happening.
- Partner with Merchant Success and KAMs — understand what's blocking adoption at specific merchants and turn it into a roadmap item, not a support ticket.
- Define and track the metrics that matter for BNPL Online — integration time, checkout conversion, widget engagement, merchant activation—and know which one is broken this month.
- Be the credible counterpart to Engineering — understand the technical tradeoffs well enough to have an opinion, not just a wishlist.
- Represent BNPL Online to leadership — with a roadmap that's grounded in data and a narrative that connects it to GMV and merchant growth.
At Aplazo, AI is not a nice-to-have skill—it's part of how this role operates day to day. The gap between "I have an idea" and "here is a working version" is expected to be small, and AI is how you close it.
- Research and diagnosis — use AI to analyze merchant feedback, funnel data, and competitor patterns faster than a manual pass would allow.
- Spec and documentation drafting — draft PRDs, specs, and one-pagers with AI assistance, then bring your own judgment to sharpen them—AI drafts, you decide.
- Prototyping — use AI coding tools to build a clickable or functional prototype yourself before asking Engineering to scope it.
- Data analysis — query and interpret product/funnel data with AI-assisted SQL and analysis, without waiting on a dashboard someone else built.
- Judgment stays human — AI accelerates the work; the prioritization calls, the tradeoffs, and the accountability for outcomes remain yours.
Must Have
- 3+ years in product management, ideally owning a merchant-facing, integration-heavy, or checkout/payments product
- Comfortable with technical depth—can read API docs, understand integration constraints, and hold a real conversation with Engineering about tradeoffs
- SQL proficiency—can query and validate product and funnel data directly
- Strong written communication—specs precise enough to build from, narratives clear enough for leadership
- Track record of shipping and measuring adoption, not just shipping
- Meets the AI expectations for this role daily (see below)—this is expected, not a bonus
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent demonstrable experience)
- Experience with e-commerce platforms, checkout plugins, or payment integrations (Shopify, VTEX, WooCommerce, custom APIs)
- Experience in fintech, BNPL, or payments
- Familiarity with the Mexican e-commerce and fintech ecosystem
- Experience working directly with a commercial or account management team
- Spanish (native/advanced)
- English (advanced)
- Time-to-integrate for new merchants has measurably dropped, with a clear, data-backed explanation of why
- Checkout conversion and widget engagement are tracked, understood, and have moved in the right direction this cycle
- The roadmap is visibly prioritized around funnel evidence—Integration, Checkout, Widget, Merchant Data—not around whoever asked last
- Engineering treats this PM as a credible technical counterpart, not someone who needs every requirement re-explained
- KAMs and merchants can point to specific product changes that came from their feedback reaching the roadmap
