Job Description

Alpine Business Consulting is a group of senior professionals who fix complex reporting systems. Often, companies buy expensive software but set it up poorly, which leads to finance teams manually fixing spreadsheets every month. We step in to install the right configurations and build a single source of truth that organizations can actually rely on. We do not use client projects as a training ground for junior staff. Instead, our interns work directly alongside seasoned consultants on projects that have clear, measurable goals.
Currently, a major German logistics provider is expanding its operations and requires better visibility across its supply chain. We are helping them overhaul their data reporting to ensure their leadership sees accurate numbers in real time. This internship is designed for someone who wants to see how data analysis works in a professional consulting context without the typical corporate buzzwords or empty promises.

In this role
You will support our senior consulting team as they refine the data architecture for our logistics client. This is a fully remote position where you will focus on the practical side of data management. Your daily tasks will revolve around ensuring data integrity and helping our team move toward a final project handover. Specifically, you will:
  • Inspect large datasets from shipping and warehouse systems to identify inconsistencies or missing values.
  • Assist in the preparation of data mapping documents that show how information flows from source systems into the reporting tool.
  • Help maintain the documentation for system configurations so the client can manage the platform independently after we leave.
  • Perform basic data cleansing tasks to ensure that the numbers used in dashboards are accurate and verified.
  • Participate in internal team meetings to review project progress and learn how we troubleshoot complex reporting errors.
  • Validate report outputs against source files to confirm that the logic used in our analytics stack is functioning correctly.
  • Write simple summaries of data findings to help consultants prepare for client presentations.

What we are looking for
We do not expect you to be an expert in every tool, but we do need someone who is organized and enjoys the process of making messy data look clean. This is an internship, so we value your curiosity and your willingness to follow established technical procedures. We are looking for:
  • A basic understanding of SQL or a strong familiarity with advanced Excel functions like VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.
  • The ability to look at a spreadsheet and spot patterns or obvious errors without being prompted.
  • A logical approach to problem solving, especially when dealing with data that does not match at first glance.
  • Good written communication skills, as we prioritize clear documentation over long and confusing emails.
  • Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree program in data science, business analytics, finance, or a related field.
  • The discipline to work effectively in a fully remote environment while staying in close contact with the team through digital tools.
  • A realistic perspective on consulting work, understanding that much of the job involves careful verification and technical configuration.

What we offer
This is a paid internship that offers competitive compensation for the current market. You will gain real-world experience by working on a major engagement for a significant logistics firm. Unlike many internships, you will not be performing errands or administrative filler work. You will be helping us build a single source of truth for a client that desperately needs it.
Because we are a fully remote company, you have the flexibility to work from your preferred environment. You will have direct access to senior consultants who have spent decades in the industry. We avoid the typical office politics and focus entirely on providing systems that work reliably for our clients. By the end of this internship, you will understand how to document, configure, and validate data systems to a professional standard.
We believe in providing the training and configuration guides necessary for our clients to succeed. As an intern, you are a part of that process. You will learn how to approach data problems with a healthy level of skepticism and a focus on transparency. We prioritize predictable results and clear communication in everything we do.
