Job description

We're so happy you're here! Thank you for checking our job out and we hope to have the chance to meet you in our interview process!

About the role

Every board number, retail report, and marketing decision at Grüns runs through our data platform. As Director of Data Engineering, you will own that platform and lead the team that builds it. We moved fast to get here, and now we're building the foundation for an enterprise-level data function: cleaner models, less tech debt, and numbers everyone trusts.

This role is part of our remote HQ! We have a fully remote, high-trust work environment - and also come together on a biannual basis for amazing off-sites where we can connect IRL.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the data roadmap and company data model, with a single source of truth for core business data
  • Refactor legacy jobs and tech debt so the platform scales with the business
  • Keep pipelines resilient so data stays available, accurate, and trusted across the company
  • Manage warehouse and infrastructure cost as data volume grows
  • Run our intake process and sprint cadence, prioritizing requests by business impact and staying flexible when priorities shift
  • Lead and coach a small team through code reviews, feedback, and clear growth paths, and get hands-on when the work needs it
  • Connect new enterprise systems, such as ERP, into the warehouse
  • Make the team AI-native, using AI agents for development, incident investigation, and data quality

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has 8+ years in data architecture or data engineering, including 3+ years leading teams
  • Has built and scaled cloud data platforms (BigQuery or similar)
  • Is strong in SQL, Python, and dbt or a similar modeling framework
  • Has deep data modeling experience and starts from business concepts before tables
  • Has built data quality, governance, and monitoring practices that teams trust
  • Has run sprint-based intake and prioritization for a team serving many stakeholders
  • Is comfortable with ELT tools like Fivetran, Orbitrail and enterprise systems (ERP experience is a plus)
  • Comes from DTC or CPG (preferred)

Approach to the role:

  • Starts with the business question, then picks the simplest technology that answers it
  • Gets fundamentals right first: integrity, governance, observability
  • Treats a trust problem in the data as urgent
  • Prioritizes ruthlessly against their own time and everyone else's
  • Stays in the weeds when needed while leading the team
  • Coaches engineers to grow into senior contributors and managers
  • Uses AI agents daily and teaches the team to do the same

Compensation & Benefits:

At Grüns, we're committed to providing a competitive total compensation package — grounded in market data that considers our size, stage, industry, and location. For this role, the base salary is $200,000 plus bonus + incentive compensation depending on experience, paired with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the well-being and growth of our team.

A bit about us...

At Grüns, we believe that foundational nutrition should be simple and convenient for everyone. We're dedicated to bringing comprehensive and real nutrition to you through our gummies, formulated from 60 nutrient-dense and whole-food ingredients. Simply enjoy a grab-and-go snack pack of gummies daily whenever fits best in your schedule and wherever life takes you.

Like you, we were disappointed. There’s an infinite number of “nutrition” companies, all focused on what’s best for them — not what’s best for you. Hundreds of products to sell you on, low-quality ingredients, and small nutrient doses. We’ve seen it all.

So we decided it was time to fix it. No more choking on and popping pills like a pharmacy. No more clean-up and disgust from gross powders. And no more cobbling together handfuls to dozens of supplements. Grüns is comprehensive nutrition, made convenient and delicious.

What we care about...

Be the Best: We hold ourselves, our teams, and our partners to an incredibly high standard - and we raise the bar constantly. "We've never done this before" isn't an excuse here. It's an invitation.

Own It: We act like our name is on the door. That means taking complete ownership of outcomes, collaborating deeply, working through roadblocks - not around them - and never waiting for someone else to solve the problem. Great owners are great partners.

Drive Impact, Urgently: We measure impact, not effort. We work smart and hard, move fast, and use every tool at our disposal - including AI - to focus our energy where it matters most.

Compensation & Perks:

For every role, we aim to have highly competitive compensation and opportunity for impact and career growth.

Everyone at Grüns works hard, but we believe in wellness and balance too. We have super strong benefits coverage -- for you and your family, generous PTO, free Grüns, and a few more perks centered around health and well-being that we can't wait to tell you about!

Prepare your application

Use the description above to assess your fit for Grüns. This checklist is guidance from Resumize, rather than additional requirements from the employer. Imported listings can be shortened or change after collection, so confirm the complete description and current availability before sending an application.

Match requirements to evidence

Identify the responsibilities and skills the employer explicitly names. For each important requirement, choose one example from your work, education, training, or projects. Explain what you did, how you did it, and what changed as a result. Include a measurable outcome when you can support it. If you lack a requirement, describe related experience accurately instead of adding an unfamiliar skill to your resume.

Put the most relevant examples near the top of your resume. Keep job titles, dates, qualifications, and contact details consistent across your application materials. Use the employer’s terminology when it describes your experience accurately; a copied list of keywords does not explain your contribution. A short, specific bullet is easier to review than a paragraph that mixes several unrelated duties.

Check the working arrangement

Confirm the location, schedule, employment type, and any eligibility requirements on the employer’s site. A remote label does not establish worldwide eligibility or flexible hours. If compensation, benefits, equipment, travel, or contract duration are missing from this listing, write down your questions for the recruiter. Do not assume details from another opening at the same company apply to this role.

Review before submitting

Follow the employer’s requested file format and application instructions. Open your exported resume and check that its text is selectable, its sections read in order, and its links work. Proofread names, dates, and contact information. Share confidential work samples only when you have permission, and use an anonymized example when necessary.

Submit through a trusted employer or recruiting destination. If the original listing has disappeared, search the employer’s careers page for the title rather than assuming the vacancy remains open. Save the application date, job reference, and the version of your resume you sent. Those details help you prepare for a later conversation and avoid submitting conflicting information through several job boards.

Review your resume for writing and readability feedback, or browse other openings if this opportunity is unavailable.
