Job description

Description

Ledgebrook is an AI-native specialty insurance platform. When a business needs coverage that is custom and complex, its broker comes to us, and our underwriters give them an answer, often in hours rather than weeks.

We built our technology from scratch, with AI in it from the first line of code. The technology helps price the risk; the underwriter uses their judgment to decide. There are always two hands on the wheel.

We are insurance industry insiders, and we eat our own cooking: Ledgebrook writes the policy and shares the risk through our own carrier, Ledgebrook Specialty, rated A- (Excellent) by AM Best. We work exclusively through wholesale brokers.

Our vision: to make the wheels of insurance spin faster.

At Ledgebrook, everything we do is driven by our culture: Care, Strive, Thrive Together. To succeed in modernizing the industry, we must first succeed in changing the way we do business. Talent density is our north star—fewer, better people working together as one. To that end we’ve replaced all individual incentives with generous equity packages—we play as a team, we win as a team. Everyone benefits handsomely from Ledgebrook’s success.

Ledgebrook is seeking a Data Associate, Data Excellence to join our Product & Data team. On this team, you’ll lead analytical efforts to drive data informed decision-making across the entire organization by gathering, analyzing, and visualizing / presenting technical insurance data.

As a Data Associate, Data Excellence, you will collaborate with data engineering, insurance product, claims, finance and operations teams to improve data integrity and automate reporting capabilities using VBA, SQL and Python. A key part of your role will be transforming complex insurance data into clear, compelling insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders through required reporting and data visualization. Beyond reporting, you’ll conduct deep-dive data analysis, develop analytical tools, deliver dedicated solutions to help other departments automate their workflows, and identify opportunities to enhance business performance and operational effectiveness. You will also provide ad hoc analytical support and research as needed to ensure Ledgebrook continues to operate with data-driven precision.

About you

Here at Ledgebrook we are passionate about creating a team that is on a continuous learning journey and that shares our excitement about building a company from the ground up. Some of the characteristics we hold dear are:

  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to innovate processes/procedures versus being satisfied with the status quo
  • A desire to continue learning whatever your career stage
  • Agile prioritization skills coupled with a keen sense of urgency that seeks to balance getting it right versus getting it done right now
  • A strong drive and desire to win together as a high-performing team
  • A moral compass to “do the right thing, period”, we have zero tolerance for toxic behaviors.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates with a collaborative approach, strong analytical skills, and a passion for leveraging data to drive business outcomes. Some specific experiences and skills include:

  • Proficiency with SQL and Excel (ideally including VBA and Power Query).
  • Familiarity with Power BI or other BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker),
  • Exposure to programming languages (e.g. Python, R) and to modern databases, ideally to Snowflake.
  • Exposure to Power Automate and Power Apps, DataGrip / Cursor, and Jira would be an asset.
  • Ability to translate complex data into actionable business insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to collaborate with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Navigating a startup environment, fast paced and dealing with uncertainty.

Nice to have: Property, Specialty or Casualty insurance data experience, strong interest in AI and ML tools.

Prepare your application

Use the description above to assess your fit for Ledgebrook. This checklist is guidance from Resumize, rather than additional requirements from the employer. Imported listings can be shortened or change after collection, so confirm the complete description and current availability before sending an application.

Match requirements to evidence

Identify the responsibilities and skills the employer explicitly names. For each important requirement, choose one example from your work, education, training, or projects. Explain what you did, how you did it, and what changed as a result. Include a measurable outcome when you can support it. If you lack a requirement, describe related experience accurately instead of adding an unfamiliar skill to your resume.

Put the most relevant examples near the top of your resume. Keep job titles, dates, qualifications, and contact details consistent across your application materials. Use the employer’s terminology when it describes your experience accurately; a copied list of keywords does not explain your contribution. A short, specific bullet is easier to review than a paragraph that mixes several unrelated duties.

Check the working arrangement

Confirm the location, schedule, employment type, and any eligibility requirements on the employer’s site. A remote label does not establish worldwide eligibility or flexible hours. If compensation, benefits, equipment, travel, or contract duration are missing from this listing, write down your questions for the recruiter. Do not assume details from another opening at the same company apply to this role.

Review before submitting

Follow the employer’s requested file format and application instructions. Open your exported resume and check that its text is selectable, its sections read in order, and its links work. Proofread names, dates, and contact information. Share confidential work samples only when you have permission, and use an anonymized example when necessary.

Submit through a trusted employer or recruiting destination. If the original listing has disappeared, search the employer’s careers page for the title rather than assuming the vacancy remains open. Save the application date, job reference, and the version of your resume you sent. Those details help you prepare for a later conversation and avoid submitting conflicting information through several job boards.

Review your resume for writing and readability feedback, or browse other openings if this opportunity is unavailable.
