About Adorama Used/Trade & Role
Adorama's Used/Trade department is seeking a Freelance Consumer Researcher to better understand what drives customers to buy, sell, and trade pre-owned gear, and translate those insights into more effective advertising, landing pages, and offers.
Our Used/Trade department specializes in buying, evaluating, and reselling pre-owned equipment, as well as managing our trade-in program. Unlike customers purchasing new gear, Used/Trade customers are often more price-conscious, focused on product condition, and looking for reassurance and trust throughout the buying or selling process.
While we have extensive transaction data, we're looking to gain a deeper understanding of our customers' motivations, concerns, and decision-making behaviors.
In this role, you'll independently manage research initiatives from start to finish, including conducting customer interviews, testing ads and landing pages, analyzing customer behavior, and developing surveys. You'll report to the Paid Media team and collaborate closely with our marketing teams to turn research findings into actionable insights that improve the customer experience and drive business results.
Employment Type: Freelance / Independent Contractor
Location: Remote
Schedule: Approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility based on interview and survey schedules
Duration: Initial 3-month engagement, with the possibility of extension based on business needs
Application Requirements:
When applying, please submit your resume along with 1–2 samples of previous research work, such as a redacted readout, report, or case study, demonstrating how you translated research findings into actionable recommendations.
What Will Help You Thrive
- Moderated customer interviews. Recruit, schedule and conduct one-on-one interviews with real Used/Trade customers (buyers, sellers and trade-in customers). Write the discussion guides, run the sessions and synthesize what you learn so it enriches our internal customer data: motivations, objections, trust signals, and how people describe their own gear and buying decisions.
- Unmoderated research on ads and landing pages. Design and run unmoderated tests that show where our paid ads and landing pages confuse, mislead or fail to persuade. This may include evaluating and recommending the right user research tool for our needs (platform fit, participant panel quality, cost, and ability to screen for used-gear shoppers) before running studies in it.
- Heatmap and click analysis. Set up and analyze heatmaps, scroll maps and click data on our landing pages. Identify where visitors stall, what they ignore and what they click that is not clickable, and translate the patterns into specific page recommendations.
- Hypothesis-driven surveys. Work with our paid media and email teams to turn their questions into testable consumer hypotheses, then plan, field and analyze surveys designed to prove or disprove them. Own questionnaire design, sample definition and the readout of results, including what the data does not tell us.
Deliverables
Each study ends with something the team can act on, not a raw data dump.
- A short research plan before each study: question, method, sample and timeline
- Interview recordings, transcripts and a synthesized readout with direct customer quotes
- If relevant, a written recommendation on the user research tool, with the options compared
- Annotated heatmap and click-analysis findings with prioritized page changes
- Survey instruments, raw results and a plain-language readout that states whether each hypothesis held
- A running log of insights the paid media, email and Used/Trade teams can reference
Qualifications
- 3+ years of consumer or UX research experience
- A track record of running moderated interviews and turning them into clear, usable insights
- Hands-on experience with unmoderated testing platforms (such as UserTesting, Maze, Lyssna or similar) and the judgment to compare them
- Experience analyzing heatmaps, scroll maps and click data (such as Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity or Crazy Egg)
- Survey design skills: writing unbiased questions, defining samples and reading results with appropriate caution
- Comfort working with paid media and email marketers and translating their questions into testable hypotheses
- Strong written and verbal communication, including concise readouts for non-researchers
- Able to work independently and manage your own schedule and participant recruiting
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with the photography, video or consumer electronics market, or with resale and trade-in marketplaces

Prepare your application
Use the description above to assess your fit for Adorama. This checklist is guidance from Resumize, rather than additional requirements from the employer. Imported listings can be shortened or change after collection, so confirm the complete description and current availability before sending an application.
Match requirements to evidence
Identify the responsibilities and skills the employer explicitly names. For each important requirement, choose one example from your work, education, training, or projects. Explain what you did, how you did it, and what changed as a result. Include a measurable outcome when you can support it. If you lack a requirement, describe related experience accurately instead of adding an unfamiliar skill to your resume.
Put the most relevant examples near the top of your resume. Keep job titles, dates, qualifications, and contact details consistent across your application materials. Use the employer’s terminology when it describes your experience accurately; a copied list of keywords does not explain your contribution. A short, specific bullet is easier to review than a paragraph that mixes several unrelated duties.
Check the working arrangement
Confirm the location, schedule, employment type, and any eligibility requirements on the employer’s site. A remote label does not establish worldwide eligibility or flexible hours. If compensation, benefits, equipment, travel, or contract duration are missing from this listing, write down your questions for the recruiter. Do not assume details from another opening at the same company apply to this role.
Review before submitting
Follow the employer’s requested file format and application instructions. Open your exported resume and check that its text is selectable, its sections read in order, and its links work. Proofread names, dates, and contact information. Share confidential work samples only when you have permission, and use an anonymized example when necessary.
Submit through a trusted employer or recruiting destination. If the original listing has disappeared, search the employer’s careers page for the title rather than assuming the vacancy remains open. Save the application date, job reference, and the version of your resume you sent. Those details help you prepare for a later conversation and avoid submitting conflicting information through several job boards.
Review your resume for writing and readability feedback, or browse other openings if this opportunity is unavailable.
