Job description

What success looks like in this role:

We are seeking a motivated Automation Engineer with 6-8 years of experience to identify and eliminate repetitive manual work across our Steady State teams (Windows, Linux, Storage, and Backup) and turn it into reliable, reusable automation. This role is centered on discovery as much as delivery: partnering with Steady State to surface recurring tasks through interviews and ServiceNow ticket data, then codifying best practices, critical procedures, and common maintenance/deployment work using Ansible, GitLab CI/CD, HashiCorp Vault, Terraform, and the JFrog Artifactory suite (Xray, Catalog, and Curation).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner directly with Steady State teams to understand day-to-day operational work through interviews and shadowing.
  • Mine and analyze ServiceNow ticket data to identify recurring, manual, and time-consuming tasks, and quantify their frequency and effort.
  • Prioritize automation opportunities based on ticket volume, risk, and operational impact, and build use cases in partnership with Steady State leadership.
  • Codify best practices, critical procedures, and common maintenance/deployment tasks into reusable Ansible playbooks and roles.
  • Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for repeatable provisioning and configuration.
  • Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines to package, test, and safely roll out automation to production.
  • Manage secrets, credentials, and certificates used by automation workflows through HashiCorp Vault.
  • Utilize JFrog Artifactory, including Xray, Catalog, and Curation, to manage and secure the artifacts produced by automation pipelines.
  • Validate that new automation matches or exceeds existing manual procedures before retiring the manual process.
  • Track and report on automation coverage and the resulting reduction in manual ticket volume.
  • Document automated processes, playbooks, and pipeline configurations.
  • Continuously revisit ticket trends to catch newly emerging repeat work and keep the automation backlog current.

You will be successful in this role if you have:

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience and 6-8 years of experience in automation, DevOps, or platform engineering roles.
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, and HashiCorp Vault in a production environment.
  • Experience analyzing ticket/incident data (ServiceNow or similar ITSM tool) to identify automation opportunities.
  • Comfortable gathering requirements directly from operations teams through interviews and process walkthroughs.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux systems administration, storage, and backup operations.
  • Solid scripting ability (Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar).
  • Understanding of DevSecOps principles and software supply chain security.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across development, security, and operations teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • ServiceNow and Power BI reporting/dashboarding experience for tracking automation impact.

Prepare your application

Use the description above to assess your fit for Unisys. This checklist is guidance from Resumize, rather than additional requirements from the employer. Imported listings can be shortened or change after collection, so confirm the complete description and current availability before sending an application.

Match requirements to evidence

Identify the responsibilities and skills the employer explicitly names. For each important requirement, choose one example from your work, education, training, or projects. Explain what you did, how you did it, and what changed as a result. Include a measurable outcome when you can support it. If you lack a requirement, describe related experience accurately instead of adding an unfamiliar skill to your resume.

Put the most relevant examples near the top of your resume. Keep job titles, dates, qualifications, and contact details consistent across your application materials. Use the employer’s terminology when it describes your experience accurately; a copied list of keywords does not explain your contribution. A short, specific bullet is easier to review than a paragraph that mixes several unrelated duties.

Check the working arrangement

Confirm the location, schedule, employment type, and any eligibility requirements on the employer’s site. A remote label does not establish worldwide eligibility or flexible hours. If compensation, benefits, equipment, travel, or contract duration are missing from this listing, write down your questions for the recruiter. Do not assume details from another opening at the same company apply to this role.

Review before submitting

Follow the employer’s requested file format and application instructions. Open your exported resume and check that its text is selectable, its sections read in order, and its links work. Proofread names, dates, and contact information. Share confidential work samples only when you have permission, and use an anonymized example when necessary.

Submit through a trusted employer or recruiting destination. If the original listing has disappeared, search the employer’s careers page for the title rather than assuming the vacancy remains open. Save the application date, job reference, and the version of your resume you sent. Those details help you prepare for a later conversation and avoid submitting conflicting information through several job boards.

Review your resume for writing and readability feedback, or browse other openings if this opportunity is unavailable.
